What does this internet speed test measure?
SpeedtestCat checks the performance of your current internet connection against the selected test server. Run more than one test if you are comparing Wi-Fi, Ethernet, mobile data, different rooms, or different times of day.
Download speedHow quickly data reaches your device. Higher Mbps is generally better for downloads and streaming.
Upload speedHow quickly your device sends data. It matters for cloud backups, video calls and large uploads.
PingRound-trip delay measured in milliseconds. Lower latency is usually better for calls and interactive apps.
JitterVariation in latency between samples. Lower jitter usually means a more consistent connection.
Why can speed test results change?
Internet performance is not fixed. Results can change with Wi-Fi signal quality, local network traffic, server distance, ISP congestion, device load and route conditions. For a fair comparison, use the same device and server, close large downloads, and repeat the test at several times.

Internet speed test FAQ
What is a good internet speed?
The answer depends on what you do online and how many devices share the connection. Video calls and streaming need stable throughput, while gaming and other interactive uses are also sensitive to latency and jitter.
Should I test Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Test both when possible. Ethernet can help show what the connection can deliver without Wi-Fi interference, while a Wi-Fi test reflects the experience on the wireless device you are actually using.
Why is my speed lower than my internet plan?
Advertised plan speeds and browser test results are not always identical. Wi-Fi conditions, network overhead, device limits, server distance and congestion can all reduce measured throughput.
Does SpeedtestCat require an app or sign-up?
No. The main speed test runs in a supported web browser and does not require an account.
